Whats your favorite powder to reload rifles with, and the caliber you reload it with? I have tried a bunch and now load all with 4064, from a 22-250 up to a 338. seems real consistant. Whats your preference. Any new powders I should be looking at?

I did a "poll" a while back about the same thing,"If you could only have one powder" My pick was IMR 4064 also. It all depends on what calibers you reload for. The magnum calibers I load for,.300 Weatherby and .300 RUM like IMR 7828 and ReLoader 22,but everyone has a favorite...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I use "Clays" for my trap shooting. Everyone at the trap club uses "Clays". Before "Clays" it was 700X
For my 30/06 it's IMR 4350.
That's all I reload.

I buy different powders for almost every caliber . Then I try different load combinations to see what each one will do . When I first started loading it was IMR-4064 or surplus 4895 for everything .
I do about the same thing with shotgun powders ,but my standard is reddot for my trap shooting . I load about twenty different calibers now

For rifle loads, I like the versatility of 748 or H380. I also play with different load and bullet combinations to see their potential 4064 and 3031 work well too. For handgun loads at the range I'll reach for unique or 231, for when it matters 296 in the magnums.

I'm truly surprised at the number of IMR powders being mentioned. I fully know that they are good products but absolutely no one mentioned 4831 from either IMR or Hodgdon.
I've almost totally switched to Hodgdons because IMR don't make a ball powder and their reloading data is often lacking.
I load four gages of shotshell, three handgun loads and rifles from .223 to .375 H&H......one powder just don't cut it!!!
I buy three powders in bulk. BLC-2 for the .223, H414 for the .22-250, .220S, .243, .257 Roberts, and H-4831-SC for the bigger stuff.
If I had to live with just one powder.....it'd be a heck of a fight, but H-414 would probably win

I don't try to use one powder in all my guns as it would be a miracle if it produced optimum results in all your guns.I experiment and let each gun show me what it likes and I don't care if I use a different powder for each gun.I currently load imr-3031,imr7828,r-25 and h-1000 in my guns.
