Remington 03-A3
#11
The 03A3's were made by Remington or Smith Corona. Odds are the rifle has gone through some kind of rebuild (which is ok) and no longer has all original parts. The good news is it's easier to locate and identify Remington parts than it is to find and ID Smith Corona parts. Most of the Remington parts will be stamped with an "R" somewhere on it. I have two of both and I am still looking for an original stock for one of my Smith Corona's to complete the setbut they are very hard to locate. Unless you know what to look for it's very hard to tell the difference between a Remington stock and a Smith Corona one, but you can tell.
They are a great peice of history as are the original Springfield 03's,(I have a few of those too)try tokeep it in it's original condition if you can. I'm not against sporterizing per say as I have done so onthree 03A3's but all were modified in such a way when I got them that putting them back to original condition was not an option so I made very nice sporting rifles out of them. They are extremely strong actions, one of mine is a 300 Winchester mag and it shoots fantastic.
Congrats on the rifle, hang on to it for the next generations to admire.

I,m going to have to dig mine out and I think it is a Springfield , I know its a 03 A3 , mine also has a pistol grip stock (very rare ), unlike the semi pistol grip stocks issued . I originally thought it was a sniper issue ,but its got two grove rifling . it could have been changed . I'll dig it out and take some photo's and post them if I can .Great rifle , but I have not shot this one , don't ask me why , I have no idea why I haven't.

I'll agree they are nice rifles. I have a sporterized one that was done so before it got to me and passed down from my grandpap that I never knew. And even then it was in some pretty nasty shape, so I cleaned it up and got it looking half way decent. I haven't shot it yet, but will get around to it eventually.

The 03 A3 I have is made or converted or what ever by NAT ORD,So.El monte, Ca. # 2609 , it has a R A( Rock Island Armory ? )barrel ,marked 7 -43. Now I'm not sure it is a two grove ,I will have to pass a patch through it to see. I see some markings on the bbl. that look like NM1A, don't remember seeing that before , not surprising ,because I haven't looked at this weapon in over ten years . The stock was repaired once and it was refitted poorly . I guess its my next project.

Survival Shop, what is the name of the manufacurer on the receiver?
There was some commercial outfit that actually made 1903 recievers to build rifles on.
RA=Remington
Most of the 03a3 barrels were remington, with a much smaller number being Smith Corona (SC) and and an ever smaller number being made by High Standard (HS)
