RE: Remington 870 slugs?
my dad hunts with a 870 he uses remengton sabots and he has no problem keeping deer down up to 150 yards

RE: Remington 870 slugs?
I use Federal Sabot Slugs. Mine isnt a reamington but they have worked great for me.

RE: Remington 870 slugs?
My 870 21" barrel is not rifled. I use an open choke and Federal Tru-ball slugs. These give me the best accuracy. I tried several other brands but the federals shoot the best. The Remingtons shot the worst. I guess it just depands on the gun. If your barrel is rifled, you may want to try the saboted slugs. I would try several brands and see what shoots the best out of your gun. Also, 2 3/4" is plenty for deer. The 3" kick like a mule.

My Rem 1100 likes Win Super X's and Federals. Hope yours does too!

RE: Remington 870 slugs?
I use the plain ole Remington Sluggers in my rifled and smooth bore slug guns. At $2 a box you can't go wrong.

RE: Remington 870 slugs?
I have an 870 with a 23" rifled barrel with cantelever scope mount. Scope is Nikon 2-7x 32mm Pro-Staff.I really like this set-up. It's very accurate with Hornady SST's.

RE: Remington 870 slugs?
I have an 870 with a 23" rifled barrel with cantelever scope mount. The fully rifled barrel with a scope and sabot slugs is the only way to slug hunt deer in my opinion. My gun likes the Winchester Supreme Partition Gold 385grain Sabots. Just a couple inches at 100 yards, and one hole at 50 from the bench. It shoots CoreLokt Ultra that well too, but I couldn't find them one year because they had sold out. Tried the Winchesters and kept with them since I still have ammo left. Results on deer at 125 yards... http://www.huntingnet.com/forum/tm.aspx?m=1932396 |

RE: Remington 870 slugs?
i shoot 3" remington sabot slugs. work good for me so far. only downfall is they are pretty expensive.

RE: Remington 870 slugs?
it depends greatly on what rifled barrel your 870 has, on mine is a hastings (1:34 twist) it likes the slower velocity(under 1700 fps) attached sabot slugs the best such as the 3" buckhammers, brenneke golds, and hastings slugs. the rem barrels(1:28 tiwst) seem to like the faster smaller sabots like the partition golds and the SST's with a red dot on my cantilever barrel, from a rest i can shoot a 3 shot clover leaf @ 50 yards, and 2-3" group @ 100 yards

RE: Remington 870 slugs?
ReDoT, I didn't know they were different twist rates.
Good to know when pointing someone in the rifled barrel direction. |
RE: Remington 870 slugs?
I shoot a factory 870 fully rifled barrel with open/rifle sights and shoot 2 3/4" remington copper solid sabots the best. You're just abusing yourself by shooting 3".
