RE: Remington 870 slugs?
My 870 21" barrel is not rifled. I use an open choke and Federal Tru-ball slugs. These give me the best accuracy. I tried several other brands but the federals shoot the best. The Remingtons shot the worst. I guess it just depands on the gun. If your barrel is rifled, you may want to try the saboted slugs. I would try several brands and see what shoots the best out of your gun. Also, 2 3/4" is plenty for deer. The 3" kick like a mule.

RE: Remington 870 slugs?
I have an 870 with a 23" rifled barrel with cantelever scope mount.
The fully rifled barrel with a scope and sabot slugs is the only way to slug hunt deer in my opinion.
My gun likes the Winchester Supreme Partition Gold 385grain Sabots.
Just a couple inches at 100 yards, and one hole at 50 from the bench.
It shoots CoreLokt Ultra that well too, but I couldn't find them one year because they had sold out. Tried the Winchesters and kept with them since I still have ammo left.
Results on deer at 125 yards...
