This really isnt important at all but i've never really shot a high powered rifle, considering that is that hear in Delaware theyre not allowed for hunting (with the exception of groundhogs) but anyway how is rifle recoil compared to shotguns. For instance a 7lb 12 Gauge w/ a 3in MAG Slug would kick comparitive to what size rifle?

it would kick alot harder than a 300win mag!!!! i forget the ezacts but i know it kicks ALOT harder a 300win mag..someone on here knows because thats where i read it...someone will be along sooner but im almost posative that it kicks harder than a 300 by alot...maybe a 375 or 416 but im not sure..i know it was referd to as an elephant gun in one of the posts..its a good kick...someone will know...

i know one thing is that i own a cheapy NEF Pardner which weighs in the 5-6lb range. kicks like a mule! I shoot 3in. 00 Buckshot, thats enough to bring any one to there knees <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> not really but you know what i mean, the reason i ask is becuase everyone around here seems to say that rifles kick like a 10gauge 3.5in or something

A heavy slug load in a light (like 7.5 pound) shotgun will produce recoil more akin to a .470 Nitro Express than a .300 Magnum! However, since the .300's MV is a lot higher, as noted by Ridgerunner, the recoil of the rifle will be a lot sharper! (It hits you in a shorter time period.) For example, when I first started shooting a .30/'06, lo these many years ago, I preferred to shoot 180 grain loads as opposed to 150's, although I knew in my mind the 150 had less total free recoil than the 180. But it was applied in much a shorter length of time, hence was less pleasant to shoot!!
