Default sighting vs cleaning

i am trying to find out what grain bullet is the best, i dont want any other factor to be changed, should i compleatly clean the gun after a three shot test group (its a 30-06) to enshure that foulowing is not the cause for inaccuracy or will three shots not be enought to foul it, also when im looking for accuracy at long range how often should i clean it (not to confuse this with the other thread)

I wouldnt clean it before i shoot a group. Actually i would take atleast one shot before trying to get a group from it. Most rifles will shoot anywhere from 1in to 4in off the first shot out of a clean bore. I would just clean it as usualy about every 20 to 30 rounds. I always clean my rifle at the range and shoot 2 shots just to get the bore a little dirty.

Unfortunately yourrifle will have to dictate your regiment. I have rifles that shoot fine clean and other who do better after light fouling. Typically for hunting purposes I shoot a verifing group(basically to check my zero) and don't touch it till after the hunt is over.

I clean my bore completely after every normal range session, rarely shoot more then 20-30 shots from any one rifle per sessions so see no need to clean while on the range. If you are planning on a whole day with one rifle it may be worth it to pack your cleaning tools/supplies just in case accuracy fades as the shots/fouling adds up.
