Hey Big Country
Did you ever get your 7mmstw shooting good? I am in the process of building a new rifle,I had the thought of an 7mmstw but I have a .270wsm & a .300wm so I dont think it would really fill ant gap there. What do you think?

I am shooting 160gr Accubonds and can't remember the exact load but using close to max RL25. I tried IMR7828, H1000, and both were very slow. I think I was shooting under 3Kfps with both. But with RL25, I am getting over 3150fps. Nothing breath taking, but shoots well. I don't see any pressure signs, so I might go up one more grain or so. I have only tried this one bullet. I have some 140's that mossy33 gave me I might try for a long range deer load. I dont' know what to tell ya about the STW. I wanted a 7mmRemmag when I got this. But got it for a good price. I know some people have faster barrels than I got. With my same load they are getting 3300fps. If I achieved that speed, I would be pretty happy. |
RE: Hey Big Country
Well I just cant decide ,I see that the stw has some great potential but I just cant see it fitting in my cabinet.I thought about a .264wm but I have a 6.5x284 so that canceled that out. I just have the itch to build.I guess something inbetween a .300wm and a 45/70 would be more fitting.I have
.220swift .243win 6.5x284 .270wsm .300wm 45/70 .50bmg |
RE: Hey Big Country

I neck size my STW, so it chambers on teh shoulder and belt. But I like beltless cases. The RUM is rough on barrels however. If yougoing to build something, maybe look into something radical like a warbird. Or that super fast 7mm ridge runner shoots. |
RE: Hey Big Country
I would say get a .458 RUM, it's listed on the T/C Contender (The Rifle, not the Pistol)availability of calibers. Here it is, find it on the left, under ".458 cal".
http://www.matchgrademachine.com/gunshop/pages.php?pageid=21 You could also find some other cartridges that might just inspire you. |

RE: Hey Big Country
Because it's a rare, unique gun, I mean, it's not just another .458, it's a .458 RUM. Big difference, IMO.

RE: Hey Big Country
No I got rid of my .270win after the .270wsm.I did think about the 7mmrum and my next choice like skeeter said a .35 cal. Man this is alot harder then when I only had 2 rifles!!!!!!!!! And that warbird is a good calibur ballisticly speaking.I have never owned a 7mm so that will be a new experince for me if that is what I choose.
