Default choke question for loads

I recently bought a gun that provided a turkey choke. The choke is recommended for lead only loads but when I went to the store today they didnt have any lead loads. They had cooper coated loads and my question is would the cooper loads cause problems with the choke? I know not to use steel loads with lead chokes but I am purplexed! Would it be best just to go out there and buy a new choke tube?

I'm no expert but I think they don't want you to use steel loads with that choke. Copper loads are fine. If not, I'm doing it wrong as well.

Copper coated loads are also ok for lead only chokes. Soare most ofthe other types of non toxic shot. THe only shot you CAN NOT shoot through it is steel. My Xtra full choke shoots the best with Remington copper coated shot.

If it doesn't take steel shot then it typically won't take Hevi-Shot either. Or others loads made of "tungsten/hard metal" mix pellets, etc..

All lead turkey loads are copper plated. It makes them a little harder to deform. They are still lead pellets, however, and OK to use with you choke.

I know Xtra full chokes will shoot Heavy Shot without a problem. My dad uses it in turkey loads.

do not shoot hevi shot through a lead turkey tube tube. id even be cautious about copper plated. the copper plating makes the shot harder and it doesnt conform to the restriction of the choke like pure lead will. hevi shot, steel etc are harder than lead and wont deform. when the shot doesnt deform the choke can rupture because SOMETHING has to give. usually lead turkey tubes are .665 restriction. hevi shot tubes are usually .675+ wider...but pattern much much better and are safer..i rather be safe than sorry. if all else fails call the manufacturer and check

It might be difficult to find specialty turkey loads that don't contain copper or nickel plated lead shot..Even though plated lead shot does not deform as easily as soft lead shot, it is considered safe fired through any choke tube designated for lead shot...
