I have three 22 hornet's. It is my favorite ground hog rifle. I have a chance to get a match grade 22K Hornet barrel for my Encore. I have never owned or had any experience with the K-Hornet. Does anyone have any comments on the cartridge? Tom.

The 22 hornet has a beer bottle shaped brass, that is morelikely to have weaker wall strength after multiple re loadings.TO MY KNOWLEGDE the 22 k hornet is reshaped brass, with more defined corners, and matching re-shaped chamber, to extend the life of re-loaded brass. I don't believe there is any accuracy or velocity differences, you just get longer life out of each shell. Reloaders only apply.
Might be wrong here, but that's how it was explained to me.

The k-hornet is what the hornet should have been designed in the first place. When winchester came out with hornet, all they did was to put smokeless powder in the old .22 winchester centerfire blackpowder cartridge and called it the hornet. You can fireform factory hornet brass simply by shooting in k-hornet chamber. The K-hornet gives longer case life, more efficent powder burn, more relible extraction, better accuracy, and appox. 200-400 fps advantage over factory hornet. It is most responsive with bullets in 40 gr range. 12.8 gr MAX aa1680,40 nosler b-tips,with cci br4 primers is excellent load in most of my k-hornets.

The K-Hornet is the way to go. My new .22 Hornet Encore barrel will soon be re-chambered for K-Hornet.Cases last much longer and maximum velocity is much higher. In my opinionit easier to develop accurate loads for the K-Hornet than it is for the original.

After doing some internet searching, it seems the K Hornet gives 100-300 fps more velocity, way longer case life, can have better accuracy.
Makes me wishI handloaded. actually thinking about it. I would turn my hornet into the K, and make my .243 an AI.

I have the K-Hornet reamer and have converted about 10 rifles - mostly Ruger bolt actions. Great little caliber. A little sleeper in this caliber is the CZ bolt action. They are generally tack drivers.
