Ultra long range gun caliber?

P.B.,I watched a series of shows about snipers last week on the history channel. The British commando snipers are supposed to be some of the best trained in the world. They were using the .338 Laupa. It showed some of the training ,Where 4 trainees had to shoot 4 targets at the same time at a (The narrator said)range of a little over a mile. All 4 hit their mark at the same time. From what I saw I would think the Laupa would be the way to go.JMHO

I'd suggest a 22 LR no im just kiddin but has anyone shot out at 1500 yards an elk would look like a squirrle at that distance and i would recommend the 50 bmg custom build by steve romans but they are about 25 pounds and not to many scopes take the pounding.

Geez 1500 yards? That's 4,500 feet! Might as well make it a mile. What's another 770 feet? Pretty soon you'll be using light artillery or a surface to air missile.
To the point: I have a 7mm RUM with 26" barrel. 150 gr Scirroco's go over 500 bc's and are launched at 3500 fps muzzle velocity. Why wouldn't that work for Prarie Boy? Kick's manageable too.

At 1500 yards?????? What is the purpose?
We have a hard time training military personal to shoot at 1000 meters. Big country do not feel bad about not shooting far with a rifle. It takes A LOT of practice.. I mean more than A lot!
We shoot 200-300 times a day at the range and hit about 80% of the time at that range. Now with the 50 better make that 99% of the time!

what's the purpose of shooting at 1500 yards? that's like asking what's the purpose of having a muscle car or having 500 chanels on tv. it's fun that's why.
i did some more research, spoke with some people that know their stuff and picked all the parts for my ultra long range gun.
i'll be getting:
32" Lilja barrel with a muzzle break (1.25" diameter)
custom action
338/378 weatherby cartridge
and a mcmillan A2 or A4 stock
this set up should give me just over 3000 fps with 300gr sierra matchkings and that was my goal. it'll take a long to to finish this project but things have started and i can't wait till it's done. i'm not sure what scope to get yet but i have lots of time to worry about that yet. the nightforce is one that comes to my mind tho.
cheers!
