need advice on caliber

I was wandering which would be better for deer hunting .308 or .300win. mag.? What Im looking for the most is for flat shooting and knockdown power!

The .300 Win. Mag. has more power, and shoots flatter. The .300 Win. Mag. would be a good all aroundcartridge for North America. Good luck.

Deer don't require either to be knocked down. Anything 1/4 bore (.257cal) up will work just fine.

Big difference between the 2 you mentioned and seeing you said deer only I really don't see the need for a 300wm! While it is flatter/faster also comes with a price for this performance in more recoil, muzzle blast and cost to shoot. So of the 2 mentioned I'd say the 308 win if deer only is the application. If you may hunt elk or moose then the 300wm has merit.

For what you've mentioned deer/flat/fast may I suggest you considerthe.277 cal(270 win or 270 wsm). Still considered one of the best deer calibers ever invented. For that matter one of the more underratted is the 25-06, a very lethal varmit/deer cartridge that will take game further then most shooter will ever consider shooting it. Just my 2 pennys worth.;)

Best of Luck

If you are going to shoot alot after or before season get the .308 . If you plan on hunting elk ,moose or bear get the .300wm.Both are great for deer.

If you're just hunting deer, get a .308.

If you're also planning, and will hunt elk, the .300 Win. Mag. would be good, but a .308 180 grain will take down an elk for sure.

So, the .308 150 grainFederal Powershoks cost just $10.97, and they make great practice rounds, and they are alsogoodfor taking deer and varmits.

Not to be picky, but you're not requesting advice on caliber but rather the chambering. Caliber is the bulet diameter, or size of the actual projectile. .308 Winchester and .300 WM are cartridges and I do believe are the same caliber.

The most important thing to me is that I want to take the guesswork out of a 300 plus yard shot! I want to know which caliber would drop the least at distance,or if there is enough difference between the 2. Thanks

.300 Win Mag or .300 Ultra Mag.
