It only took one person in the right place at the wrong time to get this ball rolling. His name; Allan Rock the then Justic Minister with a pea sized brain and the common sense of a wart hog. He sold it on the pretense/pretext it would reduce crime and save lives. Of course it does neither. He lied and said it would cost tax payers $2 million and now it's a billion$$ and that's only the hard costs that can be tracked. The real costs which would include the hundreds of RCMP Officers assigned to this program, the administrative costs associated with the program being born by the Justice Ministry and other government and non-government agencies and groups which are directly and indirectly affected, the costs to business, the lost tourism. It goes on and on and amounts to far in excess of the billion$$ now being quoted. The sad part it only targets law abiding people. How many criminals are going to register their unlawful firearms.? What a joke! How many real lives would have and could be saved if this money were spent on health care or on real law enforcement or fighting terorism. Damn Chretian and his band of Liberal a$$holes.

Rock quote:
"Gun control has a lot to do with our values," he said, and "it's saving lives now." Any changes will be made "over my dead body."
"When I was born I was so surprised I couldn't talk for a year and a half"

The egg in the face Mr. Rock isn't even involved in his brain child now. Hey Mr. Rock, we are waiting for your comments on this simple registry system you thought up over a bottle of crown and a couple of cigars!!!!
Live in sask. where this gun crap has caused many losses. The quotes of mr. rock thinking "their is no reason any citzen should own a firearm in this country" are very much abound these days. Well forget hunting, with our defence system...what choice would we have but to bare arms in a takeover.
Now they are disbanning the local gun safety course which is ran probono by our wildlife federation...oh their is fed. govt. money in the tune of 70K per year...but now no money for next year. The NFC has said the training will be conducted by the department...and how much will that save?????? Regina police service stated yesterday they favor the national registry, "so they have a pulse on what is out there." Maybe only in the odd family dispute would it amount to knowledge of use that a weapon is on the premises...I sure the hell don't think too many guys will be knocking over Macs with their scoped hunting rifles registered with NFC. LOSERS!!!!
These liberals need to be sent to the grave...the sad thing is the next governments are stuck with this crap...how can you get rid of a billion dollar goose egg.

What police officer in his or her right mind would rely on information from the gun registry as to whether there was or there was not firearm(s)on a given premises.
That is the kind of rhetoric that proponents of this fiasco use to support their argument. It is pure crap. Supose a CPIC check showed the occupant had a rifle registered to him/her. In the first place the info may not be accurate, we all know the system is fraught with errors. Does it mean he/she has the rifle on premises? Maybe it's at his/her hunt camp or cottage or maybe it has been loaned to someone or maybe it's at the gunsmith for repairs. Suppose the CPIC check indicated the occupant has no firearms registered to his/her name, does that mean there are none on the premises? I don't think so. Think of the possibilities.
The registry serves no meaningful purpose. Except when the government decides to ban autoloaders, they'll know who owns them. And when they decide to ban pump shotguns (as is currently taking place in Germany) they'll know who owns them. Etc etc etc.
And I'm paricularly pissed off with myself right now because only last week I sent in my registration applications. I should have waited a bit longer. gg.

GG, agree totally...hence why the "MAYBE". I was just referring to a statement issued by the Regina City Police Service this week, in their support for a NFC and this process. It's is crap, but with the recent published facts and figures...it also is here to stay, like it or not. No govt will be able to justify scraping it and with our govt track record of accountability no mat is large enough to hide this dodo bird under!
I too just completed my forms this week, the realization hit me...I have no choice but to comply eventually and since the idiots have flubbed that much of my tax dollars already...why wait and pay later. It has also been stated that the CO's will be checking for compliance next fall in the field...which prior was not the case.
Very sad but true...we are stuck with yet another Liberal Rotten Egg!
