It only took one person in the right place at the wrong time to get this ball rolling. His name; Allan Rock the then Justic Minister with a pea sized brain and the common sense of a wart hog. He sold it on the pretense/pretext it would reduce crime and save lives. Of course it does neither. He lied and said it would cost tax payers $2 million and now it's a billion$$ and that's only the hard costs that can be tracked. The real costs which would include the hundreds of RCMP Officers assigned to this program, the administrative costs associated with the program being born by the Justice Ministry and other government and non-government agencies and groups which are directly and indirectly affected, the costs to business, the lost tourism. It goes on and on and amounts to far in excess of the billion$$ now being quoted. The sad part it only targets law abiding people. How many criminals are going to register their unlawful firearms.? What a joke! How many real lives would have and could be saved if this money were spent on health care or on real law enforcement or fighting terorism. Damn Chretian and his band of Liberal a$$holes.
