The .243 is excellent for deer at close to medium ranges (about 300 yards max). Don't believe people when they say it is too small, it's not.

243 is a darn good deer killer. I've had great luck with 95gr Combined Technology Ballistic Tips in mine. All deer shot with that load have been a bang/flop.

I've shot 3 deer with my .243 and my younger brothers shot one with it and it dropped em on the spot. My brother took his first deer with it this year and he dropped with a high shoulder shot, it never knew what hit it. I also dropped my first deer with it a couple of years ago and it dropped on the spot with a well placed neck shot.

No experience with the mossberg but the 243 will work great under 400 yards or so. My personal favorate for bulets is the 100 grain nosler partitions.

Its every bit as good as the 223 for deer. I have had about the same results with both. I have not hada Mossberg rifle for many years but I believe they are a pretty fair gun.

The .243 is a great deer caliber. Just use the right bullet and it's good out to distances farther than I feel comfortable shooting at.

You reload? If you do, load up some 85-grain Barnes TSX bullets and rule the world.

I have the ATR in .270. Shoots great the only thing I don't really like is the heavy trigger pull. It's something like 6 pounds.
