Encore Rifle and 7mm '08 Caliber
In reading many posts on this site and others it seems there is a disproportional (sp) number of problems with the Encore rifle in the 7mm '08. Could it be the caliber?? Some have good luck with this caliber. But it seems quite a few do NOT. Nosler says in their reloading manual that if there is an accuracy question in 7MM, they resort to the 7mm '08. But, if it is like many other calibers, they may be super accurate with only certain loads and grossly terrible with other loads, sometimes it seems the more accurate it is, the pickier it is as to load. Sure would like your comments on this. Thanks Ray

I've never used an encore rifle so I cant help you there but have owned 2 bolt action 7mm-08 rifles & used 2 more on a number of occasions with both reloads & factory ammo & have found the 7mm-08 to be extremely accurate with a range of projectiles but will admit that I rarely used projectiles over 140 grains.
Had a bit of trouble with 110 grainers(Cant remember what they were now)in one rifle where they wouldn't shoot consistant groups, one would be under an inch but the next would be 3 inches but generally had no problems with five shot groupes around the inch mark or below on all projectiles up to 140 grains.
The 7mm-08 is becomming more popular for target shooting particularly silhouette-where they shoot freehand out to 500 yards & I dont think that that would happen if there was any accuracy problems.
I personally think the 7mm-08 is one of the better calibres for medium sized game using 130 & 140 grain projectiles & that it is a good varmint cartridge using 110 & 120 projectiles where it can equal or surpass the 25-06.

I own 3 7mm-08's,2 Encore 15" and 26" and a Savage 116! All are very accuate, the Savage is my 500 plus yard woodchuck gun. I have taken whitetail deer with 120gr SSP Hornady (single shot pistol)and 139gr Hornady's BTSP bullets. All very accurate bullets...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
