Default 270 wsm ammo

Has anyone seen that new accu -tip ammo from remington? It has awsome ballistics. 150 grain only dropping 28in at 500 yards !!!! 250 yard sight in. That is very impressive. It is better then my .220 swift ,.243, 300wm and real close to my 6.5X284.

I want to add I am a little skeptical of those numbers.

FYI the Accutip is made by Hornady for Remington. It is the the SST bullet with a different coloured polymer tip.Essentially the same as aNosler Ballistic Tip.

As to 3160fps MV seems a little optimistic with a 150 gr bullet. Only way is to buy some and run them over a chrony. If so that is approaching my 7mm rem mag and 150 gr NBT load...WOW would be my comment as well!

Yes skeeter I know that, and I agree those numbers are hard to believe. I wonder if they have a magic powder? I cant seem to get thatto calculate out in any of my manuals or programs.

I don't know a lot so don't blast me !! But in trying to get my.270 WSM sighted in I found that it shoots much flatter than the ballistics tables I was reading !!

I got it on last weekend with some Federal 140 grain Nosler Accubonds and it is only like 1" high at 100........dead on at 225 and only about 2.5" low at 300 !! I did not shoot a ton this weekend but got these results several times before quitting !!

I had read to sight it in at 2.5" high at 100 and it would be 3.2" low at 300............but in reality I was shooting over the target at 300 yards !!

It would not suprise me to only be dropping 28" or something at 500 yards but who knows............I don't even have a place to shoot that far !! And getting it on at 300 was tough enough !! [8D]

I would like to hear anyone's thoughts on 140 Fed.Nosler Accubonds versus 140 Win.Accubonds........both shoot pretty good out of my gun........the Fed's are rated for deer..........the Win. for elk and up !! But I killed one deer so far withthe Win's and it flopped it(just not a big exit hole) !!

If you look at some of the ballistic charts, the 270 WSM is flatter shooting150 grainprojectiles than 130's!!! I believe this because of the BC. I love this caliber and will be getting one in the near future. Probably in a Model 70 Super Grade III. An awesome whitetail caliber, probably the best yet!

Guys, guys, you actually have to shoot the load in your gun over a chronograph to see what it is really doing. I'm quite dubious about any numbers the manufacturer publishes. They are usually marketed to the high side of reality to get you to buy their product. A quick check of my data sources only Sierra and Nosler list loads for the 270 Weatherby that achieves these velocities and only 2 powders listed for each. Now try and tell me that the 270 WSM is going to outperform a 270 Weatherby with 150 gr bullets.

In the real world there is very little difference in trajectory with the 130/140/150 grain bullets in the 270. I have chronographed the Winchester Supreme loads in 130 grain from my 270 WSM they clocked at 3250 fps while the 150 grain WW Power Points were about 100 fps slower. The most accurate load I have found so far is the 130 grain Sierra Pro-Hunter with IMR 4350 @ 3000 fps. It will shoot 1/2 inch three shot groups with that load. Never even tried to beat that.

James, as I recall you have a long barrel on yours so I would expect to see velocities more in line with what the specs claim. In a 22" barrel like my Ruger all weather, I doubt I'll ever see anywhere near what you get.
