Thanks for the replies. It looks like everyone prefers the 44 mag to the 45 LC. Why? Any other info is greatly appreciated.

Out of the Mountain Gun platform the 44mag is a better choice. The 45LC is an excellent cartridge, but heavy loaded factory ammo is expensive and such ammo is only safely fired from heavier framed guns like Ruger, Freedom Arms, X frame Smith's etc.. Handloaders so equiped can get top performance from the 45Colt. For the Mountain Gun the 44mag is the the most practical/economical choice and is an excellent cartridge. The 44spl can also be fired from guns so chambered and is a very accurate and outstanding cartridge for personal defense.
