I have never used eye protection while hunting, but I guess it is something to think about, as you can just as easily lose an eye or have a incident with your firearm while hunting as with range time.

The glasses are for gas blowby. You will sometimes get gas blowback when you shoot, or you could possibly have a failure of a bolt or something and all it takes is one time to ruin your life if you don't have glasses on.

Birdman,
The protection is not for a ricochet. It is protection from a malfunction of the firearm or powder/gas blowback

I ALWAYS wear good eye and ear protection. Failure of case, bolt, firearm are some of the excellent reasons to never take a chance.
You cannot recover from some eye injuries....there are no eye transplants. And hearing damage from firearms is insidious, cumulative and irreversible.
Everybody do yourself a favor and spend a couple bucks on excellent protection. You owe it to yourself. Our firearm toys are capable of terrible injury and an ounce of protection...
