I have been reading this forum for a few weeks and i kinda wanted a "project gun" so i decided to go with a cheaper gun that was decently accurate so i decided to go with the 710. I have found that with a good scope the only thing really wrong with the gun is the bolt and a few plastic parts.

SO i brought my 710 to a gun smith friend of mine and he did a few things to it telling me he smoothed out the bolt and replaced 2 plastic parts in it. I usually tend not to ask questions, kinda gets pointless cause he knows alot more than me.

Anyway the bolt is smoother but nothing like most other guns.

Well my question is to all who know is how many 700 30-06 rifle parts match up to the 710 30-06. Im really only interested in the stock cause i hate the grey. i have considered painted it and would rather not mess it up but can not find any aftermarket parts to the gun.

Does anyone know where can get any parts for my 710 or if any other guns will match up to it.

There are virtually no aftermarket parts available for the 710 and few if any 700 parts are interchangeable.The 710 is probably the worst choice possible for a project gun.

Wish I could offer you some advice, but your options are pretty limited. I say put your 710 to use at the range or in the field and enjoy it. If you want to really get into modifications and customization, buy an old milsurp rifle and tinker around with that.

Because of the pressed barrel and internal workings you cannot modify these guns very much. I was very disappointed in the fact that you cannot work on the trigger, but it does shoot good.

Look at the Numrich websight. If they don't have the part no one will. www.e-gunparts.com/They should also have skimatics of the rifle too. They were very helpful when I re-finished my Remington 742 Woodsmaster.

Some food for thought. Since you appear to be on a limited budget,sell your 710,and look around pawn shops for a commerical rifle that looks as if it's been drug behind a truck,has bad barrel rust,or has a screwed up stock. This the least expensive way to accquire a commerical action for a project rifle. With a good action,your possibilites are limitless.

You can't do much with the 710. If the trigger guard breaks, basically your whole gun is worthless since the trigger guard is part of the stock.

A good sturdy scope will make a suitable attachment point for the anchor rope.

I had a Model 710 Remington in .270 and was very happy with the way it shot, 2 deer in 2 years for me. Now the bad part. After about 200 rounds through it I started to see a crack opening up where the clip slides into the action. Now this crack had no effect on the functionality of the rifle, but I was not about to take my chances so I traded the gun back in where I bought it for 80% of what I paid for it. I traded it in on a Marlin 1894 .44 Magnum lever action rifle. The guns shoot well, but there are countless horror stories on the web about these guns. I have several friends that have them and are extremely happy with them, so not every one is a dud. As far as a project gun, good luck. If I was you I would trade it in on a Winchester Model 70, Ruger, or a Model 700 Remington. Even a Stevens 200 would be a better choice, although it still wouldnt be a very good project gun. For a project gun, I would use a Wincheste Model 70 or a Remington 700, and nothing else. And maybe a Mauser.
