Default RE: Remington 710 & 700

I had a Model 710 Remington in .270 and was very happy with the way it shot, 2 deer in 2 years for me. Now the bad part. After about 200 rounds through it I started to see a crack opening up where the clip slides into the action. Now this crack had no effect on the functionality of the rifle, but I was not about to take my chances so I traded the gun back in where I bought it for 80% of what I paid for it. I traded it in on a Marlin 1894 .44 Magnum lever action rifle. The guns shoot well, but there are countless horror stories on the web about these guns. I have several friends that have them and are extremely happy with them, so not every one is a dud. As far as a project gun, good luck. If I was you I would trade it in on a Winchester Model 70, Ruger, or a Model 700 Remington. Even a Stevens 200 would be a better choice, although it still wouldnt be a very good project gun. Good luck man.
