Default 30-40 Krag

Hey guys. My Grandpa just gave me his 30-40 Krag. I hunt with a remington 700 in 30-06, so I dont need to huntwith this rifle. I would like to just put keep it around. He used to use the Kragbut itgot to heavy for him so I am going to have him use my 30-30. I was wondering an estimate on what it would cost to have this gun re-done. It has been sporterized already but I would like a new stock and the metal to look better. About How much would this cost?
Thanks in advance

My grandfather has the same rifle and I tried using it for hunting last year. I was able to pack it for about a 2 mile hike and when I got back home I gave it back to him. The gun itelf is great, descent shooter, easy to load shells into with that unique box magazine system, but darn is that gun heavy. Anyways, as far as having it redone, the sky is the limit. Since it has already been sporterized I am not sure that you would be doing it any good using the same stock, but you may want to look for a replacement original stock to keep it original. It really depends on what you are after. If you are looking for an original restoration or turning it into an updated sporterized look. Its all up to you.

Im kind of looking to get a new look to it, its been sporterized bu t the stock is old. I would like to have the metal re-blued or whatever it is called. And a new wood stock put on it.

I have seen several old 30-40's that had been restored, I gotta admit, they looked pretty nice, actually.

Oh, but you do need to hunt with Grandpa's rifle - there's a connection to be made there. Take it hunting.

I wouldn't touch the gun if I were you. I have one and the biggest mistake my dad ever made was getting it "re-done".

Boyd's carries stocks for both the military and sportster style.

Sporterized models are sitting in the used gun racks around here for $250-$300. To do much updating would probably cost a significant amount more than that. (Reblueing, re-stocking, etc.). I guess my advice to you would be to leave it alone. You would probably be money ahead in the long run to buy a new or very nice used gun in a cartridge of your choice.
