30-40 Krag
#1
Hey guys, I just bought a Springfield 1898 30-40 Krag Carbine. I couldn't pass it up, got it for $150, and its in pretty good shape. My problem is I can't seem to find any ammo. Does any one have some or know of a place to get some? I only want a couple boxes to make sure she shoots and to plink with a little.

You won't find it at Wally-World, but if you have a large gun dealer around, they should have an abundance of .303 British, 7mm Mauser, 8mm Mauser, .30-40 Krag, 7x57 Mauser, 6.5x55 Swede Mauser, and maybe even 7.62x54.
Gander Mtn. has plenty.
Where are you located? Here in TN there's one in Knoxville, and one in Memphis.
Also, Bass Pro Shops might have some, otherwise, look on www.cabelas.com , they have lots of bulk ammo in their hunting section.

I'm in California, so not really any big gun shops around. Cabelas, MidwayUSA, etc... have it listed in their catalogs, but I called to order some and it is "seasonal" and they don't know when it will be available again. I don't really want to buy brass, dies, etc... because I won't shoot it enough to justify it.

Man, that sucks, try using Google, there's other sites that sell ammo, you just have to really look, but you could still find average price ammo there, even some unique things, like this one site had 110 grain .308!
If they have it, I would suggest Federal Powershoks, they are only $10.97 for standard calibers, and they are VERY accurate and POWERful. They can actually be used as hunting rounds, too, though I usually prefer Federal Vital-Shok for hunting, but it's more expensive.

I've purchaed 30-40 ammo from www.outdoormarksman.com before. The prices are a little high right now, but it seems to fluctuate depending on inventory or other factors. I've gotten it pretty cheap from them before and have never had a bad experience buying from them.
