Default 30-30 contender question

I have had my contender for about 10 yrs and its all I use now to hunt deer. It's the only barel I have ever had I had a 7-30 waters given to me if I scope both barrels and interchange them should my scopes remain sighted in within reason. I really dont want to scope another out of cost reasons if they are not going to mesh so to speak!

Your question is a little unclear, but I believe you want to know if the scopes stay sighted in if you interchange barrels. I shoot Encores but don't change barrels very often. When I do, they are still sighted in (I still check every time that I change). The scope is attached to the barrel, so as long as the barrel moves and not the scope or mount, it should remain sighted in. I have had more experience changing barrels on my Blaser R-93, and it definitely does remain sighted in (PERFECT-but I still check every time).

Having had a contender with 6 barrels, you buy, mount, and sight in a scope for each barrel. That is the only you can expect perfect zero with different barrels.

In the Contender the 30-30 barrel is a very good hunting barrel. Every bit as good as the 7-30 Waters. Based on the same case. the 7-30 will fire a 145 grain bullet at a little over 2200 fps while the 30-30 will fire the 150 grain Speer Mag tip at about the same velocity. Both are deadly but In my expierence the 150 Mag tip is king of the contender hunting bullets.

You are dead on JamesB. The 30-30 is fantastic in Contender. All I can suggest is to open up to a 30-30 AI. About 150fps faster-possibly 200. Very inexpensive rechambering in a Contender barrel. It think it is well worth it. This may be a stupid question, but I never heard of a Mag tip bullet. Who makes it? I shoot the 135 grain single shot pistol bullet, put out by Sierra. Tom.

Speer makes the Mag Tip bullet. For a while they were not being made but they are back now. They expand well at 30-30 velocities. They mushroom to perfection and penetration it excellent. Try a box and you will prbably never go back top anything else.
