I have a Marlin 30-30, I used to hunt with it but now I use my 30-06. I also used to think that 30-30s were better for thicker hunting situations as opposed to the 30-06 and come to find out they are relatively equal in a sense were one wouldnt be praised over the other. Now in long range shots...different story obviously!

I would be quite comfortable with a 200 yd. shot( I feel thats not the limit with a 30-30 in capable hands, and eyes)on a Whitetail with my 30-30.

And thats my about my limit with any cartridge for a Whitetail.

Actually I do agree with this statement as opposed to the more misleading statement I said above about long range inefficiency with the 30-30. It is (your right) fully capable of long range shots in the hands of a skilled shooter.

It may not be the best gun in the world, but then again that is all just a matter of opinion and I myself like them for thier comfort to pack, carry and shoot. Ballistically they dont light up the chart, but then again with new technology in bullet design they are sure catching up. I mean heck, if you where to have to load your magnum gun in a flat tipped bullet it would slow the ballistics down quite a bit too. Now dont get me wrong, I know that the mags are in a league of thier own in the power department, but my point is that you just dont need anything more to kill deer with. If you have to take extremely long shots at deer you are either doing it for the challenge of taking the long shot or you are just way too lazy to actually get out there and HUNT for your game. Nothing wrong with either, and it is your right to be able to do either, but for me I enjoy the challenge of trying to get close to the deer before I shoot them.

In the newest Rifle Magazine theres a article about RN bullets VS Spire pointed bullets shot out of a 30-30 ,I was surprised with the results ...they was very little difference.

Try your comparison out for real you will see the 30-30 will out shoot your 30-06 ... 10 to1 in the old growth cuttings up here. Those hardwood sapplings will throw your bullets off quicker than heck. High power doesn't do much good when you see most of your deer in this thick stuff. When they are hit you will being doing a lot more tracking than you anticipated. Here alot more deer are lost under these conditions when using the higher power in the thick stuff.

Even though I am a huge fan of the 30-30, you lost me on this one. Shooting through brush makes for a low percentage shot no matter what caliber you are shooting.
