I didn't pick up on the sarcasm there.:)My badretriever.
I had to read that post several times too. 7mm Rem Mag would be more suited to shots under 100 yards.;)

No your not the only one. I just purchased a Marlin 336w this past friday. I use it on deer drives where we are walking thru lots of brush. I also use it anytime i am sitting in the heavy stuff. I figure i am not going to find a deer in my scope if i walk up on it and it takes off.

I used a 7mm-08 and 30.06 scoped for the longer range stuff or sitting in my stand. But the 30-30 is a great woods gun. Got a deer yesterday with the 30-30, right thru the heart at 90 yards (iron sites). I love how compact and low recoil this gun is. its a pleasure to shoot.

i saw a hunting show the other day where a guy shot an elk with a 30/30
i dout it could be used more than 120 yards tho...

I have owned a Marlin 336C in 30/30 for over 20 years. My father gave it to me after he picked it up in a trade. The gun was rough when he got it but I cleaned it up and put a cheap scope on it and a sling. The gun has always shot real well,1.5 at 100yds.I have never killed a deer with it,but that might change next year because Im thinking of going hunting in PA and might use this gun.

Went hunting with the new-to-me 336 30/30 this afternoon. Saw doe; I watched her for about ten minutes, deciding on whether to shoot... decided not to... then she took off. Kind of wish I'd popped her for the freezer, since this property is about to be developed (already surveyed, damn it). But I'm limited out for does... oh well.

Probably better that you wait then. No reason to be getting your 30/30 taken from you just because you want a few extra vinesin steaks to hold you through winter lol.

To quote my friend and fellow Shootist Mic McPherson, who by the way is a genuine, credentialed, and well-published ballistics expert: "Those who cannot cleanly dispatch their game using a .30-30 are either shooting too far, hunting inappropriate (too large) game, or are simply incompetent." I think that he summed it up rather well.
