I've shot the 6.5X55 for years ,Kicks Light &Hits Hard !
I have a sporterized Swede, when I obtained it ,it was Billy Bob'ed ,But I re- stocked it , D&T 'ed it, scoped it,and it has repayed me over and over...the little carbine has a 20in. barrel and islight and handi !
I've been considering a Howa in 6.5X55..

Unless you must have a short action rifle, the 6.5x55 is far superior in many ways. A short action is not even good for the .260- bullets that are 140gr and up are very long, in a short action, the bullet would be seated deep into the case body to fit the magazine.

The length of most 6.5 bullets is a large part of their effectiveness..... I call it the Freight-train effect. A long thinner line of weight give the penetration.

The 6.5 - 284 sounds intriguing but I’d rather have something off the shelf. I also found out the Sako 75 are discontinued so I just might have to look at the Sako 85 although the Tikka just might be the route I take in the 6.5 x 55...
