Best .22 made! (PLINKING/SQUIRELL HUNTING)
1.Remington Model 597. (Fixed magazine problem)
2.Marlin Model 60. (Own one already will buy another one)
3.Savage Model 64. (I dont car who ya r dats an ugly gun right dar)
4. Forget the Ruger 10/22! Yes it does have aftermarket goodies, but out of the box?

I have no first-hand experience with these, but if were to buy a premium .22 LR, I would have to decide between the Dakota 22, Cooper 57, Kimber 82, Sako Finnfire, or one of the Anschutz 1700 series rifles.
In the meantime, I really like my Ruger 10/22 with a Kimber of Oregon barrel.

As far as the very best, I would say Kimber of Oregon model 82, in Super America grade. As far as best for the money, I like the CZ 452. Great rifle, great trigger(Set trigger model), above average walnut, and a great price. Plus they make it in a left handed configuration(As did Kimber). Tom.

The 10/22 is the best for the money. If you have $500 to $1500 to spend you could get better. I love my 10/22 shoots great with no problems. I would get a 10/22 and spend some money on a good scope.
