HANDS DOWN the savage package. Sorry, just my opinion. I bought a combo Savage package in 7mm-08 and i have been very impressed with this gun. Accurate, accutrigger and seems very durable. its become my default gun for deer hunting and not just cuz of the caliber but the accuracy. I wouldn't touch a REM710 to be honest.
They are raspy and remind me of Fisher-Price for some reason.
LOL!!!!I agree, I don't like Savage actions, too rough, have to slap the bolt up and feeding/ejecting is pathetic!

I sure would like to know where you can get one of the above mentioned guns and a decent scope for $400.

Heck if we are talking Savage/stevens then I would say 400 bucks is pretty real with a Nikon Pro staff scope.
The Stevens Mdl 200 30-06 (269.99)
Nikon Pro-staff 3-9x40 (99.99-130.99 depending on where you look)
That adds up to$400.98 (with out rings or bases)
This gun will do what ever you ask of it in the woods.

Well I shopped around for 6 months and never saw a sps, adl, bdl, or a cdl for even near $400, much less a Browning or Ruger. Now, I live in the St. Louis area and that , may make a difference I don't know.

I agree, if you have $400 burning ahole in your pocket, wait till you have $700 to buy a scope, pay for tax, and get some ammo to go with it.

I know that you are ready to get a gun. I would go with the Savage. It might not be the prettiest or smoothest gun, but it will most likely shoot excellent groups.
