sorry i did not read all the posts before i opened my mouth !
what rifle do snipers use today?
do they have to pay for there own or is it military issue?
i was also watching a show amonth ago about the M-60 and those bullets seemed to be longer than the 308win or was it just me?

All US military sniper rifles are issued. If a sniper were to be caught using a personal weapon in conflict, I am sure they would be court martialed. The US Army use the M-24 SWS and the USMC uses the M-40A3. A 7.62x51 is a 7.62x51, but there are several different types of 7.62x51 rounds. I have shot many Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr and 175gr ammo in both my M-24 and M-21.

One shot,
Long time brother. Been at sea for awhile and to Japan for a month.
Practice shooting at Mt. Fuji with the 3rd Bat.Sniper Plt.
I really hope you are there if it does hit the fan but we are on alert as of last week and if one little thing happens I am off back to Iraq (sigh) It does get old doesn't it. I have always said this was a chess game and we are the pawns.
If it hits then I am off by air (Cargo). Not by sea.
I hope to see you some time One shot and you don't need good luck for the Academy, you're a soldier the big game hunter on the battlefield and it would have been great to serve together on some foreign land somewhere and pray that you would work on my rifle(s) for FREE! LOL
I'll let you know what happens when it first hits after my wife of course.
