I have .243 and 6mm/06. My brother has a .243. My dad has 6mm rem. All great calibers. No complaints about any of them. My personal favorite is the 6mm/06. It shoots everything from 65 gr to 105 gr with the same point of impact at 100 yds. It has less recoil than my .243, but it also has a 28" heavy barrel. I use modified .240 weatherby load info. Any of the above are great choices. It just depends if you want to be able to get an $11.00 box of ammo at wally-world, or have a unique gun and caliber combo. Good Luck.

Ok trailer, I'll bite...This argument was settled long ago...243 Wins (pun intended) hands down...Look at cartridge sales, rifle sales, rifles seen in deer camp...We have had about 15 hunters through here this year...Several used .243s...None used a 6mm Remington...Its a dead cartridge...
While I'm at it...the Winchester .243 also made the .257 Roberts and the 250-3000 Savage obsolete....What a great cartridge....
Ya'll have fun with this one...I'm going hunting in the morning...

... but it doesn't really matter to me. I have the 6 mm Rem. and it’s just because I wanted something different, just like other cartridges I have. The .243 is a fine cartridge and does have the edge over the 6 mm as you stated for popularity. My 6 mm is more for a varmint rifle and not for deer hunting except I wouldn’t mind trying the TSX on deer. I would rather use a caliber with heavier bullets for deer, but that's just my preference. Good luck hunting...

Popularity is more a function of WinchesterCartridges vs. Remington Cartridges. For years cartridges introduced by remington were almost destined to fail. I dont' know if it was due to advertising or more likely the fact that Remington was always following Winchesters lead. What I mean is Winchester would introduce a cartridge and Remington would try to make basically the same cartridge named something else. Irregardless in many cases Remington made a better cartridge but it never gained the popularity. case in point 280 rem, 6mm Rem...

Amazing how the inferior cartridge is the more popular one...oh well..another Remington public advertising disaster....280...6mm... the list goes on..

Why would you call it 'inferior'? All the chartsI have looked at have shown this to be a better round, as far as trajectory goes. and i want it to be a 600 yd prarie dog gun. So trajectory is the most important number, in my mind. I reload, so the whole ' finding factory ammo' argument is out the window and the brass is the same price. I guess we'll see when I pick up the rifle!
