I believe that of those named, your best bet would be the .300 WSM. Great load for short action, to make a wonderful quick handling rifle.
Accurate and managable recoil. What more could you want?

Bring back the .300 H&H! But if I wanted something for long range, I would be looking at the 300 Winmag or the 7mm Rem Mag, just because of the fabulous bullets made for them. Otherwise, can't see a small bore on game with lung and artery surfaces that big.

I like my 7 mag for an all around gun, but since you have the 270 already, go with the 300 wsm. JMHO

Add my name to the list of those voting for the .300 Win Mag. This is one of the most inherently accurate .30 calibers ever designed. Ammunition is readily available, and the selection is huge.

That kind of talk has no place on a site that is used by women and children as well as adults. Where I was raised, that kind of trash talk was not used in mixed company if at all. There flat is NO EXCUSE for it. And certainly no need. No one should have to put up with it here.[:@]

If you don't reload forget the 300 RUM and wby. Limited selection of ammo and very expensive plus downloaded. If you reload buy which ever you want.

Though since you have a .270 already and assuming you'll keep it for deer, etc. I'd agree with the suggestion of looking at adding the 338 wm to the list. Perfectly suited for what you want as an elk specific cartridge and big enough to handle anything else you may be interested in the future (at least in NA). If your wanting a 1 gun battery then any of the 300's would be fine but personally either 300 wm or RUM.

HUH???
I have both 300 and 338 RUM. I do reload but not these. Factory loads of 250 GR Core-Lokt pointed Soft Point for the 338 and 180 Grain Nolser for the 300. Both cloverleaf at 100.
Now granted they are spendy around $50 a box= $2.50 a round.
Takes 1 maybe 2 shots each year to check and 1 or 2 in the field.
Took a total of 4 shots ( 1 at range with 338 and 1 at rangewith 300 and 2 in field with300 for the Elk)this year cost 10 bucks and got my Elk.
Of course they kick like mules and don't wish fire alot with these and will save all the reload and shootingfun for the 22-250.

As for the filth mouth poster, first time I have had to use the little red hand feature.
