I ran into a problem with a rem 7400, the metal was to soft to adaquatily tighten the mount screws. I ended up oversizing the screws to #8 before I could get them to hold with reasonable torque. But the problem you describe sounds more like a bad flinch or bad scope, get someone else to shoot the rifle before you change anything.

Hey all,
Found the problem: It WAS the scope. I ran up to Cabelas yesterday and exchanged it for another Nikon. Shot it in today and it's shooting like it should be. Sorry it took well over $100 in ammo to discover it....

Thanks to all for the input & suggestions!!
