Paint job on Weatherby Accumark
I don't know if this is the right place for this but here goes.
The Weatherby Accumark stock finish... composite stock.. is o.k. but could be better....nicer [:'(]. Now suppose a funny manwanted to do a tint or paint job on the stock, what would be the procedures. Would the stock have to be sanded down and then whattype of tint or paint would be used. I suppose the gel coat finish will reject any tint or paint.
Thank you all....

RE: Paint job on Weatherby Accumark
I refinished an old rifle this year. I can tell you what I did but you're on your own. I sanded mine down starting with course and working my way to fine. I then wiped the stock down with a damp rag and let it dry. I used wood bleach to bleach the wood white. I applied about 4 coats of bleach to achieve an even color. Then I stained it for two coats with standard stain dabbing between coats to make sure I achieved a consistent finish. Then I used clear shellac for about 4 coats sanding with 00 and 0000 steel wool between coats.
Hope that helps.

There is no problem at all painting the fiberglass stocks such as those by h-s precision and mcmillan, etc.I have painted the barrel channels on my mcmillan stocks and I have touched up scratches on both mcmillan and h-s precision, and the paint adheres very well.
