Default Buying a new deer rifle...help

Thinking about buying a Remington model 700 in 30-06. I am hunting mostly in northern Michigan where my farthest shot is 100-150 yards...however I do go some places where I can reach out to 300+ yards. In addition I want to go to Canada one day and get me a big un. I was thinking about using 165 grains and limiting my shot to 200yards. What do you all think, enough gun?

When you say big un, big un what? The .30-06 should be fine for your purposes, short of maybe moose or grizzly bear, or at least not optimum for those two.

That's a good choice, and no reason to limit yourself to only 200 yards based on that caliber/bullet choice. If you're limiting yourself to 200 because of YOUR skill level, that's fine. But, a .30-06, using 165's, on whitetails, is good to go well beyond 300 yards if youhave the ability tomake the hit...

Since I usually don't get very long shots I do not have the practice at 200 yrds. This is a self imposed limit due to the lack of practice at that distance. Though, I did take one 200 yard shot and dropped the deer in it's tracks.
