I have both the 270 and 300 wsm, and I dont know about you but when I get ammo I usally buy 2 boxes or so and every year you get more so tring to find ammo is usally a non issue, who in here can tell me you only have 1 box of ammo for your rifle in your house I would think 3 or more boxes min would be more real .....

I have both the 270 WSM and the 270 Win. I reload so ammo cost and availability are of no concern to me. The 270 WSM will give you about the same gain over the 270 Win. as the 300 Win Mag has over the 30-06. This about 200 FPS. Enough to matter in the real world? Probably not but the numbers are there.

I only tried the 270 WSM because I wanted to try a Short Mag and also a Savage accu-trigger rifle so I combined the two and got the Savage Varmit model in 270 WSM.

Also I wanted to try one before DD does.

200 FPS is enough to scare people at the range and give me a flatter trajectory. And quite a bit more power.
So if 200 FPSis enough to scare people at the range and give you a flatter trajectory and a bit more power then why go with the standard .270 if the .270 WSM seems to have an edge on paper, without regards to price of bullets, etc.

Why would 200 fps scare anyone at the range? the 300 Win mag is pretty pale compared to the 30-378 and the 300 RUM. The 300 Win is a fine cartridge but just kind of a 30-06 Imp. Same with the 270 and 270 WSM.

It is a great round and if you handload you can do some cool things with it....I would be confident with one and just get my practice time in...
