RE: Accuracy .300 WSM Remington XCR
Thanks to all for the replies & input. I ordered some traditional shooting bags this evening. I only wish I had the money back for the shells I've already bought & the sighting-in "junk" I got. It ain't cheap!

RE: Accuracy .300 WSM Remington XCR
I can get 1”-1.5” groups from my Remington XCR in 375H&H, it is just a matter of finding the right load and doing your bit.
I use a Kahles 2-7X36 scope and I have settled on a load of 67gr of AR2208 powder behind a 220gr Taipan FP pill for pigs donkey and horses and a load of 82gr of AR2209 behind a 270gr Woodleigh PP for Scrub Bulls and Buffalo. ![]() I recommend that you do what I do and go hunting small game like Rabbits etc with it so that you get used to shooting it, after you fire a hundred or so rounds at game with it you will be much more comfortable with it. |

Even in a vise, it should do better than that. I think maybe you should practice alot on sandbags. Pratice practice, practice...if you cant get it at aleast a moa at 100yds with 5 shots, after awhile, then id say you have rifle issues.

RE: Accuracy .300 WSM Remington XCR
The sand bags might do the trick for you, hope they do. My earlier notes about how to set up a vice should work, I know because we have been sighting in rifles for 10 + years as a service of our gun shop, 99% done from a vise.
Shooting from a vice is not perfect I will be the first to admit, but it has many advantages. Like shooting freehand, prone, kneeling etc there is a learning curve of how to do it best. No substitute for putting that gun on your shoulder and feeling comfortable when you pull the trigger from any position. Sandbags and vices are just devices to help you in the journey. |

TELL me about your barrel break-in procedure..I've found over the years and seeing hundreds of factory guns trying to beach-rest shooters that the problems were caused from even before they fired the first shot, escpecially with anything that says "MAGNUM"..so, what did you do for the first twenty shots......

I agree with stubblejumper and 260 rem you need to find the right load for you rifle. In the June/July edition of Outdoor life there is a section called the short mag riddle and the author had a 300 wsm in a model 70 that he couldonly get groups of 2.5" and larger from his gun and stated theOL gun tests had the same results with other 300 WSM they tested. The factory rifles didn't seem to do well withfactory ammo. However, he did go on to say that the the new Winchester XP3 brought hisshots back to 1.5" groups. I personally have nottried them, but itjust maybe as simple as finding the right bullet for your rifle. Good luck!

Try putting ashim betweenthe barrel and the end of the forend. Remingtons should have a pressure point. If the shim helps then make it permanate. I have fixed several Remingtons that way. I usually use a match book cover. If that clears up the problem I just put a good sealer on the carboard and leave it in there. This might sound to simple but give it a try.
