Glocks... yay or nay?
Those of you that shoot with them, how do you like them? Also, are they reliable and do they have a natural aimpoint for you?
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
yay, they are perfect for what they are intended, a lite, no nonsense, no frills, pull it fire it, self defense pistol.
alot of people want safeties, and all the other crap that can get in your way. If I get that, now I got a target pistol. |
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
LOL

RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
For self defense with out a doubt yes, agree with bigcountry 150%. They will feed an empty casing ! Not to mention any loaded rounds you put in it. Match guns they are not, but pure survival tools they are without doubt! Uncanny reliable, I have two and neither has jammed on me to this date and that is with firing some real junk ammo.

RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
YAY! But not to the exclusion of all other pistols. The golck I have experience with is fairly accurate, ridiculously durable, surprisingly dependable and fun to shoot.

RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
I carry a 23 every day...Got it after I qualified for CC several years ago...I had used revolvers and other autos before, but like BC said, you pull it out and pull the trigger...The deputy that taught CC said too many cops had been killed because they forgot to take off the safety when it came time to use their weapon...Mine is plenty accurate to defend yourself...I too have a few target and hunting pistols that are more accurate...The whole CC thing is that we all have a right to defend ourselves soif you need to do so they will be close, real close...usually just a few feet away....
I did try several types/brands of ammo before I settled on the most accurate...so far as "natural" aimpoint..It becomes natural the more you practice. |
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
They get the job done, but I don't see much advantage to them in any caliber except 9mm. The unsupported chambers in the larger calibers can lead to wear and metal fatigue much more quickly thanin the 17/19/26 models, although the service life of the larger-bore modelsis about the same with other polymer-frame combat handguns of the same caliber.

RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
I find the trigger safety adequate for the job. I carry mine loaded in a inside pants holster and ive not shot my nads off yet. (knocks on wood:D) It has not jammed one time out of around 500rds im guessing and it dont seem to hardly get dirty at all (even though i clean it all the time). its very accurate and lightweight, easy to maneuver. I guess im saying pretty much whats already been said but i cant say enought about mine. At 550$, its very hard to beat. I love mine! the glock 22 i have is the standard issue weapon of the U.S. marshalls. That has to say something, not to mention its used by at least 80% of police and game officials. So "yay" for me also. :D

RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
They don't feel right in my hand, the funky grip angle and bigger grip don't fit me at all. If they fit me I would more than likely have one. The Springfield XD is my piece of choice because of the way it feels in my hands.
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
I love my G23 it is i can shoot accuratly out to 100 yards with it. so i would say they are an accurate pistol .I have the green frame one witch i like better than the black but i would deffinatly say yea to the glock
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
Yay, I would have to say my Glock is fun to shoot. I saw and handled the guns at the NRA Convention. I had to go out and buy one shortly thereafter.
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
Glock Model 23 in 40cal and i Love it. No problems at all.
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
I have glock 30 45 cal and shot the snot out of it and love it
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
I had all of the full size Glocks. All worked very well. The 10MM had a few malfunctions until it had 50 rounds through it then it smoothed out well. It turned out to be the best shooter although they all shot fine. The 22 was my favorite and I did some bullseye shooting with it. In the end, I couldn't get past the no safty or visable hammer. I do plan to purchase either another 22 or the newer GAP 45. You can't go wrong with the Glock.

RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
Another Glock 23 person here. It's my CCW and I've NEVER had the first problem. I always carry with one in the pipe. When you pull the trigger it goes bang. It's very easy to field strip. Sure, they aren't for everybody but the mid-size 23 is perfect for me. Highly recommended.

RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
I actually vote NAY....
I have shot a few Glocks and, well, I just don't care for them. They just feel like cheap plastic and look like a rectangle box. I know they are strong and very reliable. I just can't get use to the feel of them. Sorry... |
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
Well, I admit it looks like a mudhen to me too. However, could someone advise, are they double action pull for each shot or is the first different? I appreciate the comments.
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
Yay all the way!
I have owned my Glock 19 for over 14 years now and I wouldn't trade it for any other handgun. |
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?

RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
Nay, I'd only take a Block for a compact backup for point of contact.
I'll stick with my P95 for a composite frame, otherwise my 92 or a nice chopped 1911. |
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
I like my Baby Glock M27. It's my primary carry gun.Another Yay.

RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
A definate yeah!. I own a glock 23 that I use as my CCW gun. It is extremely durable and is as accurate as I would want for my carry gun. I also have a few 1911's (kimber, springfield) which are more accurate when shooting targets but the glock is in my mind a perfect fit for my needs when I carry.
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
I shoot the Glock 17 9mm and I've never had a problem with it. I installed Hogue rubber grips which improved the grip a lot. I really wanted a Kimber, but couldn't get the 9mm in California, so I bought the Glock and love it.
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
Just make sure it fits you. Glock's are very good guns. However, i found the grip angle was not comfortable for me. I ended up buying a Springfield XD for $100 less and it is all the gun that the glock is and more.
most importantly, again, make sure it fits your hand and you are comfortable with it. I have seen too many people who wanted a "brand" over what actually fit them. a .22 revolver is better for defense if you can shot it well. |
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
big two thumbs up!:)
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
All the Glocks I've owned have been super reliable. There tough as nails and proven in sand, mud and snow. But they do require good safety skills. If you screw up and pull that trigger, there's no manual safety to protect you from you own stupidity.
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
I looked at a new Glock 22 the other day and I think I will get it. The 23 is to small for my hand. It just doesn't fit.
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
We have a few officers that have the same problem James B. We issue the 23 to most officers but a couple kept pinching their hands when speed loading. (Blade of hand was between the magazine and magazine well.) Gave them 22's and no more problems.
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
for many years the glocks have won and dominated combat shoots.most police issue the mdl 22,40cal.if the grip appears too slick for you get some sand paper and rub it down
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
Id have to say nay since im not a big fan of polygonal barrels because they become excessively lead fouled with lead bullets and can cause high chamber pressures. I use a lot of lead bullets so glocks dont work for me but other then that they are a 5 star handgun and are very reliable and sturdy just plan to shoot jacketed or plated bullets only.

RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
ORIGINAL: SPIKEHORN11 I've always wondered if you could buy a regular barrel for them to shoot lead bullets? Yes, there are companies making after market barrels for Glocks that are safe for lead bullets. Brownells should have some on their website. |
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
Thats strange. I ran a lot of lead bullets through my 22 without any leading problem. Mine was one of the first 22's do they all have the same barrels?.
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
I've got the full size model 21 in 45 ACP.
Very accurate, if I do my part with the DAO trigger. I shoot precision better with a good SA gun, and the grip is a wee bit too big for me, but it's a shooter, and reliable as heck. Does anybody know os a gunsmith that will modify the frame to add a light rail? Mine is an older model without the rail. |
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
Yay...I have a Glock 27 .40S&W for 5 years. I haven't had a problem. I shoot handloads and factory ammo with good results. It's a straight forward self defense or military gun. The only other handgun I have that I would put next to it is my H&K USP40.
|
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
I buy American as much as possible. However, Glock's are the only handguns I know of that arefully reliable, very rugged, accurate, and safe, right of the box.
As much as I love 1911's and Hi Powers, I've never owned one that didn't require a lot of work before I could trust it as a carry gun. |
RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
Add another yay to the list. I have the model 36 which is the slimline .45 and it has gone bang every single time. I have night sights and rubber grips on mine. I am thinking of trading it in for a G23 though because not many places carry stuff for the 36. We'll see

RE: Glocks... yay or nay?
Lead fouling in a smoothe, hammer forged, polyganal barrel?? That's one I haven't heard. I can understand pressure differencesbecause of Glock bore diameters though.I don't fire many cast loads but when I do, I spend more time cleaning lead out of my cut rifling barrels than my Glock barrels.
School me up on this one.
