300 mag?! What does he think he's on safari? You did say Georgia deer didn't ya? For those little things he's way over-gunned. - maybe a .22 short or good pellet gun (LOL - JJ).
You're on the right track. Start closer and have someone else along to donate a shoulder and seperate perspective. Some guys screw things up (literally) when they start cranking on adjustment screws the wrong way. Who knows what he's done. Have to recommend some reduced recoil ammo for the next sight-in session to get close and then some fine tune with the actual choice for hunting. 300 mag for Georgia deer? I gotta remember than one!!! The boys will love it! LOL |

ORIGINAL: Crew Dawg Iwork with this guy back home. He came to me last season complaining about missing a buck. He asked what could be wrong as he couldn't hit any thing else either. I asked about his rifle. he said that when he bought the rifle, the gunshop owner bore sighted it for him. He never zeroed it. I explained that bore sighting was pretty much just get him on paper at 25yds. Then i explained what to do. He came in the next cussing my name. He had shot three boxes of ammo out of his 300 ultramag( Georgia deer). He had tried to go out to 100yds. and zero his gun instead of 25. Any of you guys ever deal with these kind of nuckle heads? |

And in order to do this the shooter has to be capable of decent groups at that distance as well. The weapon is never more accurate than the shooter.
I am a fairly decent shot, but I don't know how well I would group with that rifle. I have never shot one, but I would be a bit intimidated and it would probably effect my groups. Paul |

22 shorthuh... Uncle Matt, i think you arejelious that we can take 12 a season.:D Some old boy killed one up around Atlanta 2-3 years ago that went 300+. They did a feature on him in Georgia Outdoor News. Supposadly years ago ourheards went way down. So they imported a bunch of western and Canandian animals. Ireckon some ofthosegeans are still floating around.We can hunt from the middle of Sept. to the first part on January too. As for being over gunned. It seems like every body today thinks that bigger and faster means better. I am not looking forward to dropping the hammer on that thing myself. At least they didn't come in a mountain rifle version.

I live down in south Geaorgia. We say south not southern, because it is like a differant state. A good deer for us is 120 and a real good goes 150. My wifes cousin shot oneoff our property last season that green scored 157. It dressed out at 140. That Atlanta buck had a rack to fit it.

A good Saskatchewan or Alberta buck willscore 150 or better,and a good mature buck will weigh around300lbs or more live weight.
