I have an old 760 carbine in .308. I haven't used it much and the scope and mount were out to lunch. I haven't fired it since I removed the optics. Maybe today is a good day to try it out with open sites and see what its like. I'm not expecting great accuracy out of an old carbine but really what do you need in the bush anyhow? The trigger on this one is much better than many box guns available these days, but then this thing is about a 1962 production.

I live in the south where many people dog hunt. Most dog hunters want a repeater. So I have sold many, and have had wonderful success. I would expect 1.25 or better with the right ammo and scope.

I have a 7600 in 35 whelen. I got it from my wife for Christmas but it is what I was intending on buying. I got it two pump 2 or 3 shots into a moose, elk, bear or deer in the bush within 150 yards or so (probably much less). So it does not need to be MOA for what I want it to do. I did shoot a few deer with it, one at a little over 200 yards.

I think I was getting about 3 inch groups at 100 yards with rem. factory ammo, which was fine by me.

If you guys want to see some videos of shots taken with a 760 or a 7600 check out www.benoitsbigbucks.com. The Benoit brothers of VT pretty much only hunt with Remington pumps. They have shot deer out to 3 or 4 hundred yards.

I do not think you can get the 7MM 08 in a 18 inch barrel. You cannot get the 270 in a carbine.

I have a 760 in a carbine 308. It shoots 1 inch groups all day with facotry ammo. Never had the trigger done either but it could use a alittle work and would be even tighter. My hunting biddies have it in a 270 and it shoots great !!!!!! 1 inch all day

7-08 actually used to be limited production guns in 7600, might have changed. Never seen anything but 3006 and 308 in carbine. Could not pay me to shoot one without hearing protection. Shooting a carbine will make a buddie hate You.

:)I have about 10 of these rifles. From the old 760 30-06 (2) to the newer 760 270's (4) a 6mm 760 a couple 30-06 7600's and a couple 270's. Also a 243 in 7600. The only one which does not shoot under an inch is the 6mm and it used to about 5000 rounds ago. I actually wore the bolt out on this one and had it welded up with oversize bolt pins. This brought it back to about 2.5" (from about 4") which I consider useless. I believe Remington lied to the person earlier when they said the 7mm-08 had a shorter action because all the 760(0)'s I've ever had apart had everything except the clip and chamber exactly the same. (well the 222 had a smaller bolt face) I plan to rechamber this 6mm to a 240 Gibbs which will move the throat out 1/4" to 30-06 length. Also hold 67 gr of powder instead of 55. Slightly hotter than the 240 Wby. As to fixing the triggers on these rifles just squeeze and twist the trigger spring, and slightly polish the sear to remove the burrs. A better rifle there isn't. I will admit the barrels are too short @ 22 inches and they need more powder capacity chamberings. The only time the pump makes noise is when you slam it shut. Which is on a rapid follow-up shot, so who cares. I have killed deer over 400 yards with my 270's but I have switched to a Sako 30-378 Wby for my beanfield 400+ yard stands. A follow up shot with this rifle is next to impossible, but luckily not usually necessary!

Just bought a rem 7600, synethic stock, in .308 with 22" barrel. I believe that the action is the same on all of them, they just use a different clip for the .243 & 308's. I think that in 30-06 and a 18" barrel they will be real loud.
