ORIGINAL: Doe Dumper Just a little joust to get 2 of my favorite folks on here a little tickled :D I am anxiously awaiting my first "swede" James. Im gonna have some serious fun with that thing. I used the 270 for a long time for deer and have absolutely zero complaints but after several shoulder grinding mt biking crashes I am into the "female" guns when it comes to recoil :DI moved to that 7-08 and it was perfect for what I was looking for....nearly equal ballistics and just a touch less recoil. You can not go wrong with the 6.5 swed if I had to pick just 1 that would be it. They can't be beat

My favorite is the 308 Win. for not just deer, but about everything I hunt with a firearm.

The 270 is no doubt the best. But given your conditions for shots under 150 i personally would like sumthing with some thump, to take them cleanly and quickly.I'd go with a 308 0r the 30-06 route. Extremely accurate and will reach out and touch a little bit farther than 150 if ever needed.

i have hunted with my trusty 30.06 for years, then i picked up a 7mm-08 in a smaller lighter gun for the woods. Now thats all i use anymore. I just love the 7mm-08. I purchased a savage bolt action and right out of the box is was so damn accurate, lower recoil, short action and will do pretty much anything you ask of it. my choice would be 7mm-08 for whitetail deer.

Doe dumper yes mine came fron the same place I tryed to buy that one to but he had said he sold it to you. I now have 6 of these the best gun made, oops not made anymore LOL

Firstshot... my 7600groups em just as good as any of my budies bolt actions down on the shootin range... i got itzeroed in at 100yds. and my three shot groups average about the size of a quarter.. yea the pump action does allow for quick follow up shots and plus it just feels cool to do it :)not to mention the centerfire pump actions are pretty dam sharp lookin

7600Rem
I've been reading up on the 7600 on various forums and found many similar reports on the accuracy of these rifles. Last year I switched from a BAR 30-06 to a REM Mtn LSS in 7mm-08. I really like the performance and shootability of the 7mm-08. I'm definitely going to keep my LSS but would love to have a 7600 in 7mm-08 as well. Grice hasthe in 7mm-08 but their current version is with a Maple stock & forearm....which is, in my eyes, very ugly (and that's being kind). I found a listing of Grices previous special runs andatdifferent times theyoffered the 7mm-08 in walnut and a couple of different laminated versions. I'd surelike to have one in a laminated stock. On the other hand, they are currently offering a 7600 walnut in .35 Whelen! I just don't know that I need that much "thump" (& related recoil) here in NW Arkansas where whitetails, black bear and hogs are about it as far as big game is concerned. It just seems like a bit of over-kill for whitetails and who knows if I will ever get to go on a out of state Elk hunt. It would however give me a fairly well rounded out two gun battery - 7mm-08 & .35 Whelen. Decisions, Decisions! firstshot ----------------------------------- Make your first shot count! |

If you can't kill your deer with any one of these cartridges the fault is your own, not the cartridge.
