6.5x55 and the 30-06 are about perfect.

Can you take a pistol to BC? I don't think so.

Well i know you said no tag for a grizzly but if one should charge me it would be self defense and I want something that i know will do the job. I chose the .375 H&H magnum especially for this. I know the smaller calibers will take a moose but a moose doesnt have big teeth, razor sharp claws, and may want to eat you. I would seriously consider something larger than .30 caliber if you have grizzlies in the area and you dont have a back up rifle or large caliber backup pistol like the .454, .475, .480 or the .500 S&W.

Nope, can't pack a pistol in the woods in BC, anwhere in Canada for that matter unless you get a rare special carry permit which is reserved for people who work in the back country around bears. Like tree planters and surveyors.

.338 RUM or .358 STA!

However, the next time I go moose hunting, I plan to get within 100 yards and use my .73" Jaeger firing a .735", 597.5 grain round ball with 150 grains of Swiss FFG. I figure this will also dump any grizzly that gets close enough to bite me!

I'd take, without hesitation, a .35 Whelen. I know Remington was/is making them in the 700 CDL. Looked like a decent rifle. But, Rebel does make a good point with 6.5x55.....lol

i don't believe i would be buying another gun in this case. i already have a gun that's perfect for this situation, my Rem 700 Bdl in 30-06. i figure with a quality bullet of 180+ grains i would be fine. plus i can already shoot this gun well.

I thought that handguns were a NO-NO anywhere in Canada. My outfitter in Sask can't even get a permit to pack one. Better make that Alaska.
