Ijust bought a savage 93R17-FXP .17 HMR and have killed 4 ground hogs with it at 100-120 yards each. The bullet hasen't made a pass through yet but explodes on impact with my V-max Hornady and Federal Premium V-Shok bullets. Can anyone tell me what distance i can reach out and kill them hogs with this gun? I just got it and am curious to learn about it.Thanks!

I have killed 6 GH's so far this spring with mine. I limit my shots to 150 yards max. Beyond that, and you have to have a perfect headshot. I tried the 20gr rounds and they pentrate pretty well. But I usually use the 17 gr loads because that is what my scope is calibrated for. Good luck.

i also use 17gr bullets. i shot one hog out at 115 yards in the stomach and i ran all the way to its hole before i could get it again. Must not have the greatest penetration out at long distances.

Depends on how big they are and where you hit them. I would feel confident shooting a woodchuck at 200 yards with mine. Providing I got it in the head or throat. I'm not sure I would take a body shot at that distance on something at big as a michigan woodchuck. They are pretty tough sometimes.
