I have a question for Nikon users. Does anyone out there use or have used a Nikon Monarch 2-7 x 32 scope.

I am hunting whitetail in Wisconsin. I am not worried about the magnification but rather the low light shootability. Does this scope pull in enough light to make that shot at opening?

I don't have a 2-7 but I do have a 3-9x40,1.5-4.5x20,and a 6x42 all nikon monarchs. They pull in an amazing amount of light, even the 20mm objective. I think a 2-7x32 may be the best all around deer scope there is. I have one in a vari-x 2 and it is great.

If you want light gathering capability, you increase the objective. I would suggest a 40-50, I got a 50MM objectve a number of years ago, since then I have never bought anything else. Many say oh it equals only 2% more light gathering than 40mm, which is true....but try it, my bets are you'll love it! It is easy to go up, but brutal to go down in the objective department. I have one 32 and 40, they are on my 2 rifles I never use in the field anymore.....everything else is 50 in my cabinet.

I have 3x9, 2.5x10, 3.5x10 on my 50's. I really like the high power for the range and sight in. In the field I usually leave it in the 5 range and only have advanced it to top rating on 2 long distance shots.

I've used both a 3x9x40 and a 3.5x10x50 Monarch Nikon and love them both. The light transmission of the glass is superb, but then again I've always been stuck on Nikon photographic lens quality.

The only time I believe the 40mm or 50mm objectives play a critical role is in low light situations at the 7x to 12x settings. A Monarch 32mm objective set at 2x to 6x will do well even in low light.

The downside to large objectives such as 40mm and 50mm is a smart deer and a little to much light reflecting off your scope's objective lens - then you're busted before you ever see the deer...the only blessing then is that deer can't shoot back. A nice reflective scope objective is always a good friend to a counter-spider specialist.

Thanks for your thoughts guys. I have owned a 3-9 x 40 Nikon Monarch in the past and opted for the 2-7x 32 based on the field of view I would gain. Being my stand is in some fairly heavy timber the wider field of view with the 2x was a plus, but would have to sacrifice some light gathering. I guess all I can do is try, if it does not work I will have to upgrade it next year.
