The 150 gr is a great all around bullet for the 30-06. Big enough for elk and moose, so definately big enough for deer. And it will shoot flatter than the 160gr.
When it comes to elk on up, unless you have perfect shots at the ribs i don't agree with that statement at all.

I've seen so many "non premium" 150 grain bullets out of a 30-06 come apart in deer it isn't even funny! (I base that on well over 100 whiletail kills i've seen useing 150's) Anyway, that isn't so bad on a perfect side shot in the ribs on an elk, but they just don't penetrate deep enough on the bigger animials to be called "a great all around bullet for the 30-06" Pretty much the same thing can be said for the 165's too, but they do seem to have a bit if a thicker jacket than the 150's, and they do seem to hold together a bit better...

In general Elk on up should have a 180 grain bullet used for them.

I agree with that 100 percent. For game bigger than deer, I like the 180 and 190 grain bullets. I really like the 180 Partition and the 190 grain Hornady BTSP.

The 150 grain in the 270 has a higher SD than the 180 grain in the 30 calibers. Thats why people tend to underate the 270's ability with even 130 grain bullets. The SD favors the 140 grain in our 6.5's in the same way.

The 150 Barnes TSX, even in the .300 Win Mag, will hold together well enough to fit the definition of an all around big game bullet in .30 caliber. I can't think of any other bullet in this weight, though -maybe the Nosler Partition. Even out of .308 Winchester, the 150 grain Swift Scirocco was coming apart on elk.

The poster is asking about bullets for his 30-06.Those .277" bullets aren't going to work very well in his rifle.

So you're saying that 150gr NP is no good for the .30-06?There'snot much difference between the .30-06 and the .270. I was just making a point cause he was asking about the 150gr.

There is a great deal of difference between a 150 gr .277" bullet and a 150gr .308" bullet. One is very light for caliber, and the other is very heavy for caliber.
