The 25-06 is a excellent round. I believe its to hot to take say to a prairie dog town, It will absolutely turn a coyote inside out. I love em. Though it does quite a bit of damage to the pelt, if that is a concern. with me its not. You can kill anything up to and including elk so long as you take reasonable shots. As to range, I would say that the gun will shoot farther than either you or I are capable of, so the limit will be your abilities.

Gotta agree with that. I have had a couple of them.

Skipped over the .25-06 as I have both a Ruger M77 heavy barrel in 6mm Rem. and a Ruger M77 in .270 Win.

I've had extremely good luck with my 25-06. I have been able to get groups with 75 grain V-Maxes, and they pack enough punch to kill a coyote much, much further than I can shoot. Hit a coyote with a 25-06, and it is going down.

I guess the same could be said for a 6mm Remington.

the 25-06 is probably THE best varmit/deer round going. A little on the small side for elk, but can be done.

I also like the .270 as you can shoot 100 gr bullets at 3320 fps for varmints and you can step up to 150 gr bullets at 2930 fps for elk. It is a little more versatile. The 25.06 offers 85 gr to 120 on this ballistic chart.
http://www.gunsandammomag.com/ballistics/ North Texan are you reloading the 75 gr or buying factory as this ballistic chart doesn't show a 75 gr?

For use on deer or smaller game the 25-06 will do anything that the 270win can.For elk or moose, both will work, but neither is ideal.
