The 308 is inherantly the more accurate round, in the same quality rifle. The 308 is also much more versatile so unless you are very recoil sensitive the 308 is a better all around cartridge. There is a reason that most all sniper rifles are 308.

And that reason is more logistics related then the reason you are thinking....... dont get me wrong the 308 is a great cartridge and is my favorite. but many dont know the real reason the military sticks with it. why do you think the army was having such trouble getting the 6.8 mm SPC which is obviously a far superior cartridge to the 5.56mm and in the long range accuracy dept the 6.8 mm would even give a 7.62mm a run for its money. it all comes down to logistics.....
