Default .300 Weatherby Magnum

With all the new Ultra Mag and short magnum cartridges out there, does anyone still celebrate the 300 Weatherby? That used to be the king of the hill. I always wanted one as a kid because I was in awe of it. I finally got one 18 years later. Now it seems that it never gets a mention with the Ultra Mags out there. Anyone still think the Weatherby is hot stuff?

Nah its a wimp round why have that when you can burn minimum 20 grains more powder and get 100-150 fps and even more recoil with a 300 ultramag. I would like someone to show me how much cheaper the Utramag is when buying ammunition and remember your buying Remington brass not Norma.

Even with all the new cartridge advertisements we are being bombarded with nowadays, in 20 years the 300 Weatherby Mag, 300 Win Mag, and 7mm Rem Mag will still be going strong. I figure a few of these new whizbang wonder rounds will fade into obscurity once the new wears off. Anyone seen a 350 Rem Mag lately?

Barnes X that is the sweetest Elk Rifle out there ..it has stiff but not abusive recoil. Enjoy it thoroughly and I am sure you will. I have found mine to be an extremely consistent shooter and shoots at and below an 1" with factory norma ammo or Hornady custom ammo. No work done to the gun as is from the factory even has a tupperware stock on it.

I love my .300 WBY. The ultra mag really only seems to have 50-100 fps more over the Wby. That's just like the difference between the Win and Wby. Not enough to make a big stink about. There's always the 30-378. Way more powder but only a little more velocity than the ultra mag. I think the 300 Weatherby is the way to go and I think I'll be stubborn and stuck in my ways on this one.

Didn't know my brains were scrambled and I shoot a lot more than 6 times while at the range. I don't have a thing against the 300 Weatherby or the 300 Win The 300 Win is my main hunting gun and I love it but the 300 Ultra mag is a lot of fun also.

I have a friend who owns a 300 Wby. Mag. he pushes a 180 gr. bullet 3300 f/s 4352 ft/lb, and a 200 gr. bullet 3150 f/s 4406 ft/lb. I think that is still pretty impressive. Good luck.

Probably the greatest all-around big game cartridge ever invented. It's a bit too much for my bad shoulder, and selling mine hurt as much as loosing your best birddog. None of those other rounds do anything more than the .300 Wby and they kick a whole lot more and burn a bunch more powder. This is the quintessential American cartridge.
