Actally im gointo have to vouch for russian made mosin nagants. Most happen to be very well made with as close as tolerances as a springfeild rifle or M1 grand. the only russian made nagants that show poor quality are the carbines, heat of the wartime production models and guns that were generaly abused. i have 3 russian made mosin nagants and one with a syntetic stock, tikka barrel and finnish markings. At 200 yards with chech ball ammo it will shoot 3' groups, thats with open shights.

Default RE: question

To state that the 7.62x39 round is not a high intensity round would be a mistake it surely is. To state it isn't the ballistic equal of the 7.62 nato would be quiet accurate. The bore dia. for a .308 win. is .30 cal. The grove dia, to the bottom of rifleing cuts is .308 therefore the bullet dia. is .308. You could load a .308 dia bullet into a 7.62x39 case, but you can't load a .311 bullet into a nato round your pressure would go thru the roof. It might be easier on you to not try too hard to prove your sargent wrong ,at least not in front of other people. They tend to remember things like that!

7.62x39 the AK 47 is actually slightly larger than a .308 if you measured it. I believe it is either .310 to somewhere around .312. I have heard that some gun manufaturers have made them to fit in a .308 barrel..i believe it was ruger but i am definately not sure. But I do know that the AK 47 is larger than .308....but just slightly.

Default RE: question

An army sergeant guy came to our school and asked questions about the power of a .308 sniper rifle. I told him "about the same as a normal .308" and he said "ohhh no, much more powerful, i dropped a buck at over 1500 yardsduring deer season, just aimed at it's backline."
