I priced the Sako 75 Hunter Synthetic Stainless at $1,158.00 and have to ask is it worth the money? I mean really you could by two or three other guns for that price. Also, what other high end firearms are there out there? I've been containing myself to the $550 range but if I streach it a bit I could part with up to $800 is there a whole different class of rifle for that amount? And is it worth the difference in price?

Sako makes a great gun. It really depends on if it's worth the money for you. Try looking at the Tikka T3 in stainless. The Sako might give you a 1/2" better group at the range but the Tikka will be about half the price.

I wouldn't call a Sako rifle "high end", i'd callit "expensive"....

Like everything else these days, the prices are getting out of hand!

It is the difference between a real diamond and cubic ziconia. They look the same, serve the same purpose (essentially) and have very different costs. There is this little economic thing at work here called conspicious consumption. I would go with whatever makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I don't know if over 900 is worth it. I have never paid over 900 for SS/syn. But I have some and really like it. Has everything I want. Three bolt lug, very smooth detach mag, spring extractor, easy to hand dissassemble bolt, nice smooth bore, sub0.75MOA accuracy, very low glare SS finish, adjustable 2.5lb no creep trigger, but stock could use some improvement but for Synthetic stock, i would put it ahead of any of the other gunmakers under 900 dollars.Balanced perfect, and just the right comprimise ofgun wieght and recoil for my magnums.One thing I notice which I guessdon't matter. Is the bolt isloose when its pulled back.When its locked up, itstight.Just kinda suprised its loose. At least it doesntbind.

I have had almost all the other makers under 1grand. And the sako beats em all. I have remingtons that are just as good but its rare, and I have had to change out the stocks, have the trigger adjusted, and pillar bedded. After all that, I could have just had the Sako and not ran around town to the smith.

It really boils down to what you are looking for. What features? Accuracy is not all I was looking for. I was looking for all listed above.

I guess this question will keep popping up every once in a while. For some hunter yes and for some NO WAY. Being an proud owner of Sako rifles I would say yes but the end result is the one dishing out the bucks is the one who has to decided...

I would say "yes", as I now own 3 sakos, one of which is a ss/syn in 7 mag. Compared to the others, it has all the features I like. I've looked at them all. If you just can't come up with the money get a tikka. I have learned although it took a while to get the best you can and be done with it. I bought and sold several bino's till I got the Lecias, now I'm done and in the end I would have been better off getting them right away. I figure my guns are for a lifetime or two and you get what you pay for.

I would say yes, but only about pre-Beretta (Stoeger and earlier) imports. I have two 75s, a 7x64 and .416 Rem and love them. The owner of the store where I purchase my stuff continuously grumps about Beretta and how difficult they are to work with. My last issue involved replacing one of the "inserts" in the optilok rings. Stoeger listed each part seperately, so the inserts were inexpensive. Beretta will only sell the $1 insert with the $56 rings, you can'torder just one piece...

Lets see I've got a sako (blued) in 7mm08, ($1010) a mcmillian stock (350) and a III leopold on it, and YEP I'd say it's worth it.

I own a couple of Sako 75's and they'renice rifles and all, but I won't get carried away and describe how they parted the Red Sea or something like that. Both of mine are wood stocked, one's blued the other's stainless. One cost $700 used (but practically new) and the other was $900 NIB.

They've been good rifles. The 7mm mag can be quite accurate with certain handloads, but it copper fouls a lot worse than I'd like. I've shot more than a handful of subhalf inch groups with it.The .300 Wby has never been one to foul the bore muchand given the right loads, it can produce some pretty respectable groups too. BTW, they are both Stoeger imports and pre-bolt lock.

Were they worth the price? I'd say they probably were. I've enjoyed using em' and they've accounted for a decent number of dead whitetails.
