I've heard the 30-06 does not deflect as easily if you are shooting through small branches. I rarely shoot farther than 200yd and am often hunting in wooded areas so I went for a 30-06 over the 270. I've used it for everything from whitetail (a bit of overkill) to elk and northern sized moose (much larger than the ones in southern B.C.). You may also want to consider what your hunting partner is shooting. If one of you forgets or loses your amo you can share. I've never seen a store that sells amo out of 30-06 amo but I have seen them out of 270 amo. You can get 30-06 amo everywhere.

You would not go far wrong with either caliber. I personally lean toward the '06.
